First time home buyers can have it rough when it comes to buying a home in this city. We have some of the highest property values in the country, not to mention a market that currently favours sellers. Multiple offers are the norm these days. This is due to the high volume of buyers competing for the relatively few listings available.
I work with quite a few first time buyers, and here is my general advice to them:
First thing to do is to find a real estate agent you are comfortable with and can trust! If you don’t feel you can ask them questions, you’re definitely with the wrong agent.
That brings me to my second piece of advice – question everything! Buying a property is a complicated process. If you haven’t done it before you should have a plenitude of questions that need to be answered. As industry professionals, we sometimes forget that clients don’t know as much about the process as we do. There’s no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to making the biggest purchase you’ve ever made.
My final piece of advice in this blog is to be open to looking at properties you may not have thought to consider. When it comes to viewings, the more you get out the better. This city is full of great buildings in great neighbourhoods. It doesn’t cost anything except an hour or so to view a property you wouldn’t otherwise consider. The more you see, the more information you will have when it comes time to make your decision.
I love working with first-time buyers because I get to really guide them in the process and make sure they have a positive experience for years to come. With the right guidance, acquiring real estate can be a stepping stone on the path to financial well-being.
Like I said, I love working with first-time buyers. If you are interested in learning more about the process, feel free to contact me any time and we can help put you on the right track.
Good luck to all of you!
