Parkdale is a large neighbourhood to the west of the downtown core. In the early 1900's, the area was very affluent and known for the many mansions dotting the streets. This changed in the 50's when many of the large homes were torn down and replaced with soaring apartment blocks. This changed the neighbourhood dynamic, and many of the remaining houses were converted into multi-unit apartments. The area is bounded by Queen Street to the north, Dufferin to the east, and the gardiner to the south and west.
Lately the neighbourhood has begun to re-explore some of its roots. Many of the original homes are still present in the area. With square footages in the 4000-5000 square foot range, many of these beautiful old victorian homes are being restored to their old glory. People looking for a very large and stately home close to the city would be well served to explore this area.
